I have the same problem! just took my G5 to the apple store and they tried alot of things... booted from an external by holding option... checked the drives, which were supposedly fine according to Disk Utility.
I figured it would either be ram going bad or the drives. so I've switched out the drive and all the ram, and tried to run it off of a friend's drive, but I get a (no smoking logo without the cigarette) in place of the :apple: when booting . I'm guessing it is because the OS installed on the hardrive is 10.6 and thus not supported by the PPC G5.
Now I'm waiting for the disks to get here to troubleshoot with those.
Any ideas guys??

One of the things that irritates me about iTMS is the fact that I can't play my purchased tracks on anything other than an iPod.
This doesn't currently affect me as I own an iPod but I would like to be able to use them on other devices as well (such as AAC compatible phones etc.) . This restriction means that I do not purchase as much from iTMS as I might otherwise.
I am wondering how much extra money Apple gets from locking users of iTMS into the iPod system.
Would 'de-regulating' FairPlay in this way encourage owners of other players to buy from iTMS and would this extra revenue offset that losses from lower (potentially) from iPod sales?

I also agree. Even the common non-tech person knows about this because it is talked about pretty much every day by every local news station.

Am I the only one bothered by this??
So it seems like everytime I open the App Store or iTunes on my iPhone 3GS I get asked for my password!! I don't care about an app that didn't update or a download that failed earlier! I just want to do what I'm doing now, and not be bothered by entering my password for some reason that I don't even remember or care about.
Is this a useless rant or do others feel the same way?

Further research shows there are 640x480 versions of the original 1984 but they prove elusive. :(

Bad RAM. I've had it happen with numerous computers, which is why I paid more for the 8 GB of RAM from Apple, given they can test it prior to shipping. My memory from Apple is Samsung, which I have used a lot without issue. I don't know much about Corsair's memory, so I cannot say anything regarding their product, but I have always used Crucial with good results, and it is a favorite here.
That's for the advice! I may try Crucial or OWC which looks like they guarantee Apple compatibility. I guess the Corsair's should work fine in a standard laptop.

I said an EXTERNAL drive has to be FAT, I have no idea what format the internal drive is. And based on your last post you didn't really try my suggestion, which was to load your videos onto an external drive and then either play them off that or load them onto your internal drive that way.

Hi there - I have been trying to get CS5 to draw some dashed lines for me around an arrow. I have been trying with Path shapes and Marquees.
I know how to use brushes to create a dashed line of sorts, for example, when you want to simple have a brush to draw a line across the page.
I also know how to use brushes to with paths, right click and stroke path.
But what I can't get working is to do it with any finesse. For example, if you want a nice dashed line around an arrow, the effect isn't particularly appealing using the above methods. Where the dashed line breaks for the gap, the angle of the break isn't angular to the shape of the arrow. By adjusting the scale didn't approve things.
If I use a small square brush with even spacing, the effect around the arrow isn't particularly appealing, it seems uneven and doesn't produce the long line short gap effect.
Any experts out there? Here are some failures:

Hi, I'm trying to get my Apache server working on my iBook. I heard many people recommend not to do it because it's like a sure-fire way to become hacked easily. That's one question I have... How easy is it to be hacked? Also, it won't even set up for me. I don't know why. Is it because I have a DSL connection with a dynamic IP?

Pages on my G4 ibook and even on my G5 dual 2ghz with a gig of ram is ridiculously slow - like molasses. If this spreadsheet program is this slow I will never use it.
I will give double emphasis on that!!
I tried to produce a nice document in pages for a set of astronomical objects in a viewing manual. It is roughly 55 pages long and includes 110 different figures.
It was an absolute nightmare to put together! I spent days locking, unlocking, moving, re-organizing, trying to get pages to do some of the simplest of tasks properly.
In the end, I have a nice looking document that takes literally 5 mins to open, 10 secs to scroll a page, and I am afraid to touch it, to edit it, as it might "explode" if I do.
I have a PB G4 17in. 1.67Ghz, 1 GB ram.
I really know that most of the people here are mac fanatics when they actually endorse "Pages". It is the slowest, worst, piece of cr*p Apple ever produced. I have the UB iWork 06 version now and it still sucks!
I like keynote but it still lags in presentation features behind powerpoint. It is also a problem to interact with the 99% of business users out there who use PP. I know that it exports to PP and I know it goes to pdf, QT, etc. But you have to actually perform these operations with an actual group of business users to realize the probelms it presents.
9 times out of 10, exporting to PP screws up everything but the most elemental of slide shows. QT exports don't quite look presentation quality, are dificult to interactivily control, and generate huge files that are difficult to email.Exporting to PDF, makes static slides, and is more for printing than for presentation. There is no free Keynote client for windows and mac users like there is for PP.
All in all, iwork , (still a cheap name), is not ready for primetime. It is OK to experiment with, play with, and to generate simple documents. But it is not any kind of a replacement for the professional who works in an integrated MS office environment.

OK... I am not sure if it needs to get sent out...
You're not sure as in "It doesn't need a repair, because its still fully functional" or "I'm not sure they're going to sent it out to get it fixed"
Really though. These are more of an annoyance than actual problems.
I've actually had these issues for a while, but I finnaly have a whole week off, I got to go back to school on the 3rd...

I'm freakin sick of the ITMS.
I love iTunes and my iPod, but purchasing music that can only be put on an iPod is crap. There may be a better player out later which I want to go to and then *poof* my ITMS purchased tracks are crap.

That is quite weird. Normally, simulated surround sound headsets use optical cable to get their surround sound. I also only ever heard of optical, hdmi or a series of analogue cables being able to produce it. The only way I know of macs without dedicated audio cards being able to output surround sound is by optical or firewire using the multiple series of analogue cables as I mentioned.
There might be a driver issue that doesn't let osx recognize the processor of the megaloadon. Have you tried hooking it up to any other windows computer of your friends or family?

There are also things like HTMLarea that add the buttons and make it look almost like MS Word.

I absolutely loved all of today's announcements! iTV sounds AWESOME I personally think.
Some people are complaining that the videos aren't high enough in resolution, but it will take off as is. Think about this for a second. The quality of music in the iTunes store is not near CD, and the movies are "near DVD"....the public didn't mind on songs, and I HIGHLY doubt that joe shmoe down the street will care about his movies. For all he is concerned, he would think it looks as good as DVD...The average user WILL NOT notice that what, 80 pixel loss on the width. I commend Apple, and am awaiting to see exactly what the potential of iTV really is!
As a note: iTunes 7 downloads movies SLOOOOOOOOW, maybe because Apple servers are overloaded, i don't know? All I know is for National Treasure a 1.5GB file, should take 33 minutes and 33 seconds on a 6 megabit connection that we have here. (Obviously, actual speeds are not close to 6, but 2-3 is def. sustainable) Even at 2 megabits, it should take 100 minutes, which is not bad at all. BUT, It has been downloading since 6pm and it is now 11:26pm with an estimated 35 minutes left!!! Either Comcast is ripping us off or Apple's servers are maxed out (which I suspect, because my internet is running pretty quick)
EDIT:
Hmmm....maybe I have my number wrong. According to iTunes, it is downloading at 565kb/s How many kb is in one gb? The one site I looked at says 1,000,000kb = 1gb. And 1 megabit = 125kb....are those numbers right or was the site wrong?
