You can't start a thread like this and not give us your first impressions! :D
I'm looking forward to Reach, although I'm also keeping myself grounded over the hype. I've generally enjoyed Halo but have been dissapointed in one way or another by everything since the Xbox original. I'm hoping the single player is better than Halo 3's at least.

I have an Audi A3 2.0 TDI and I love it.
I get much better fuel economy than my previous car, doing about 55mpg on most journeys (I don't drive economically!). This is based on UK standards for measuring mpg, so you might need to convert if you live in the US (a gallon is different over here). This is offset by the higher price of diesel though.
At low speeds I do notice the noise more than my previous car, which has a petrol engine. It's not overly loud though. On the motorway it's about the same as a petrol engine - the tyre roar drowns out the engine.
I like the extra torque you get with a Diesel. It's much easier to drive at lower speeds than my last car. It's not quick off the line but once the turbo kicks in it's fast enough. At motorway speeds it's brilliant. Get into the power band on twisty roads and it's great fun.
I haven't noticed any extra maintenance or costs associated over any other car.
I would buy a diesel again, but I think I may go for something sportier next time around and will probably end up with a petrol.

I like Pages for small documents (<20 pages). It has very crisp text display and it is quite nippy in use. The exposed features are quite comprehensive in a single-user environment and the application is quite fun to use. I have yet to try Mellel's word processor however, that is meant to be very good.
It certainly doesn't have the quirks of Word, but it has its own quirks that can be very annoying. For example it wants to be Page Oriented, but then acts like a word processor within each Page, allowing you to have multi-page Pages (that the page template doesn't apply to). WTF?! I admit I didn't get iWork the upgrades didn't seem worthwhile. Hopefully iWork 2007 will be more tempting.
I'm not sure I understand what you mean. If you start with a blank page, Pages works just like any other word processor. Mellel takes a very interesting approach. I spent some time with it in an earlier version but decided to move to Pages when it came out. Unfortunately, anything that doesn't look and act just like Word is not going to be an acceptable alternative for many people.

 So?
Why would Apple (or any other company) send them stuff THE DAY OF a launch?
Why would an electronics product company differentiate between third-party vendors? Oh wait, they do that all the time.

I have a 3 part tent "1 Large Middle and 2 small separate tents linked by a tunnel for privacy" It can be used for up to 12 people "Mini Condo Type" i would be willing to bring that and even share with other folks waiting also.
Since it may rain your tent would be amazing. I have just a big umbrella.

http://www.hrw.org/en/news/2011/02/27/un-security-council-refers-libya-iccUN: Security Council Refers Libya to ICC
Resolution Aimed at Stemming Violence and Bringing Justice
FEBRUARY 27, 2011
United Nations Security Council diplomats vote on a resolution during a meeting on Libya at UN headquarters in New York on February 26, 2011.
The Security Council has risen to the occasion and given notice to Gaddafi and his commanders that if they give, tolerate, or follow orders to fire on peaceful protesters, they may find themselves on trial in The Hague.
Richard Dicker, director of the International Justice Program
(New York) The United Nations Security Councils unanimous resolution referring Libya to the International Criminal Court (ICC) sends a strong signal to Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and his commanders, as well as other governments in the region, that the international community will not tolerate the vicious repression of peaceful protesters, Human Rights Watch said today.
The resolution adopted on February 26, referred the crisis in Libya to the ICC, imposed travel bans on key Libyan leaders, and froze their assets.
The Security Council has risen to the occasion and given notice to Gaddafi and his commanders that if they give, tolerate, or follow orders to fire on peaceful protesters, they may find themselves on trial in The Hague, said Richard Dicker, director of the International Justice Program at Human Rights Watch.
Human Rights Watch said the Security Councils referral to the ICC appears aimed both at bringing justice to the Libyan people and avoiding more victims.
How ironic that two of the permanent members of the UNSC have invoked the ICC without themselves recognising it.

It's an April's Fool gag, ipad2 has not been jailbroken.
The 4.3.1 exploit of ionics isn't for iPad 2 owners, but it's not an april fools, he gave it to them a few days ago.
Presently, only poisixninja and the chronic team are working on iPad 2 jbs afaik. Comexs exploit was patched in 4.3.1 and it doesn't seem like he's going to release his old 4.3 exploit, although I could be wrong. He was waiting for chpwn to provide an iPad 2 bottom dump but I don't know whats going on with that. His parody account claims he just needs to finish the artwork on the new jb, but im pretty sure that actually is an April fools joke as it's not from his regular account.
As for all others, can't comment on other ppl not in the scene, can't know if they are legit or not unti they release. If anything changes through twitter or anything I'll post here. Late.

No graphics card uses DisplayPort right now, so it's pointless.
And if next year half of new ones uses displayport, is it still useless?

My friend bought this last month. I was weary of the controls at first, but after I started playing it I didn't give a rat's arse.
We finally finished all 6 games last Saturday. It cost on average $10 in credits for each game. So for $39 the game is a deal. :)
I loved the part where my character got turned into an uzi wielding orangutan. :D

So how do I go about simply automatically merging the data from multiple drives to one?
Automatic... hahahahaha!
It's hard to say without knowing what's on them. But assuming one drive is the boot drive and home folder, and all the other drives are data, it won't be too hard.
Use Carbon Copy Cloner, Clonezilla, or some other similar tool to copy your boot/home drive to a new 2TB drive. Replace the old boot drive with the new and test.
Once that works, simply file copy drive 2 to the new boot drive.
Pull drive 2 and insert second 2TB drive. File copy remaining drives 3 and 4 to the boot drive or second 2TB drive as needed.
If you have all sorts of crap going on like partitions and boot camp and linux and Lion developer previews and whatever, you need to be very specific about what you have.

I would think the rendering would be a bit on the slow side, not the mention the lack of visual real-estate to get all the windows open thqat FCP uses with tools and whatnot.

I think the difference here is, with deCSS, once it was out there it was out there - DVDs, as physical objects, were beyond the reach of the studios, and all the various players/drives that were out there made it impossible to do anything about it for DVDs.
With FairPlay though, Apple can 'update' purchased music anytime users download a newer version of iTunes to make sure FairPlay keeps going for anyone who wants to keep buying from the iTunes Music Store.
iTunes update on Tuesday? :p

You could do without the RAID-card altogether and just install 4 drives in the bays in the Mac Pro and use the ZFS filesystem (http://code.google.com/p/maczfs/) to make a dynamic stripe in RAID-Z, so you will get RAID-5 like performance but with better protection and data integrity.
You can't boot OS X from zfs, you can't use spotlight very well on zfs, quite a lot of applications/games won't work properly because zfs isn't case-insensitive and there are some more small problems. Zfs is great for a fileserver and various other kind of servers but in a Mac it's still hfs+ that is the best option (even though zfs is a much better filesystem).

There was some good speculation going on at the PreNAB Editor's Lounge. Mark Raudonis was one of the few that got to see the new FCP at Apple recently.
http://vimeo.com/22057617
Of course he couldn't say much due to the NDA. I'm still excited to see what the big changes are, but I'm not very optimistic after watching this. Luckily we're likely only a few days away from finding out for sure.
